In June 2021, the senior care industry was still feeling the impact of the pandemic. Covid-19 had impacted society, changing how we behave and interact with each other. In addition, limitations were still in place in senior living communities and other health care settings. Gone were the days where you could meet with another industry professional in a nursing facility, assisted living, or hospital. Networking professionals were forced to embrace technology and reach out in new ways to build relationships. Out of necessity, virtual meetings quickly became the norm, and eventually made it difficult for professionals to form a more personal connection and business growth wavered .

As Virginia was beginning to see mandates being lifted in the public sector, Mikelle and Heather arranged for a meet and greet with one other senior living professional after work hours. The meet up reminded them how much they missed in-person networking. “We should do this again! Next time, you invite five other senior care professionals, and I will bring five others.” Unbeknownst to Mikelle and Heather, a great thing was born! As months went by, more and more professionals wanted to reengage with in-person networking. The word got out and before they knew it, colleagues were beginning to ask when the group would have a name. And finally, Hampton Roads PROS was officially established!
